Goal Panning Strategy 2: Introduction.

In goal planning strategy 2 we want to break out of our traditional habits of goal setting. We need to break the mold, find a new focus, and forge a new path forward.

A few years ago when I picked up a copy of Joe Dispenza’s trailblazing book, Breaking The Habit of Being Yourself: How to Lose Your Mind and Create a New One, what the hell is he talking about? But I quickly came to the realization that what he said was true. We are an accumulation of our habits and if we want to change our life we need to change our habitual thinking about who we are.

That is essential what goal planning strategy 2 is all about.

So let’s start with his powerful vision of ourselves.

To be empowered—to be free, to be unlimited, to be creative, to be genius, to be divine—that is who you are…. Once you feel this way, memorize this feeling; remember this feeling. This is who you really are….” Source: Joe Dispenza

Let’s agree now to play to that vision. Give up playing small, give up our limiting words, like can’t, have to, not capable.

Instead, let us focus on the possibilities. Let’s focus on what if I could.

With that mindset, we can shatter our default template and start with a fresh way of building toward our dream.

The Goal is Just the Map Not the Territory

I have very strong and controversial views of the whole structure of dream building and goal setting. Goal planning strategy 2 goes a little deeper into those ideas.

My purpose in this series of articles is to get you started now in creating your 2022. In the future I will give a masterclass in Dream Building, Purpose and Goal Setting.

The map gives you the general direction to make it possible to work toward the goal.

The goal is there in the distance but it’s what we do every day, each step we take that ultimately determines how we FEEL about what we accomplished in 2022.

You never fail because you didn’t achieve your goal.

This is our first mental shift away from that default template of pinning everything on hitting that goal.

Break your goals into little steps.

Forget the idea that success is dependent on achieving the goal.

In 2022 our focus is on the growth we achieve in working toward our goal. Not the goal itself.

Start where you are. Use what you have. Do what you can.

Break the Default Template With These Gems of Wisdom

  •  Perfect is the enemy of our goal planning strategy 2

. Release the need for perfection.

  • You will fail. You know you will fail. Space x failed seven times on landing the Falcon 9 booster stage but they didn’t stop. Each failure taught them something new. Now landing a booster is routine.
  • The only failure is giving up. Don’t give up. Find out what you need to learn and try again.
  • It’s not written in stone. You can adapt and change your plan depending on circumstances. COVID 19 is a prime example. We all had to change and adapt.
  • Create big goals. Motivation comes from the challenge of big goals. Remember your big goals are broken down into small achievable steps.
  • Challenge your assumptions. We all make assumptions on which we base our actions. Ask yourself if you what part of your goal or your action steps and based on preconceived ideas and not on reality.
  • Focus on only 2 or 3 big goals to maximize your success. Too many goals will dilute your attention, cause overwhelm and stress. All of which could lead to you giving up.
  • Move from results-based thinking to growth and learning objectives.

When we focus on breaking old habits we open ourselves up to new possibilities and new ways of doing things that might lead to greater growth and learning.

Don’t close your mind to doing things differently. Be open to the 1 % possibility that a new direction could work. (Don’t close your mind to change.) Goal planning stretegy 2 is all about breaking the mold

Breaking the Template Exercise

Take out pen and paper once again and write out ten things you plan to do differently in 2022.  Save your list with the other exercises I recommended.

The world we see that seems so insane is the result of a belief system that is not working. To perceive the world differently, we must be willing to change our belief system, let the past slip away, expand our sense of now, and dissolve the fear in our minds.

Conclusion: Goal Planning Strategy 2: Change the Template

The easy thing to do is to reuse the template we have used before. That way it’s just a fill-in-the-blanks exercise.

Let’s listen to the words of one of the great minds of all time.

If you always do what you always did, you will always get what you always got.

This article gives you suggestions of where to look to change ingrained habits.

However, each of us has our own habits we need to seek out to make the process of designing our 2022 more rewarding.

Ask yourself these questions as you start thinking about those 2 or 3 goals you’d like to aim for in the new year.

What can I do differently?

Have I done this the same way before?

What would be a more interesting way of doing this?

How do I want to feel about myself at the end of 2022?

What would be the most challenging way of doing this?

What would create the most growth and learning for me this year?

The goal is not about achieving a number…but a quality or state of being.

Change the template, change your life, to paraphrase the great Wayne Dyer.
