Introduction For Being Happy

Photo of colorful note books with Happy days stamp on them Being happy is an inside job. Happiness comes from within you. If you use phrasing like “I’ll be happy when…(some outside event occurs), then you rely on some outside event to bring happiness.

Your happiness is conditional, based on something outside yourself.

Marci Shimoff wrote a great book about that:

Therefore, we start by finding happiness within ourselves.

However, in this article, we offer you six happiness principles you can follow to help that happiness well up from the inside out. 

Being happy means taking action and actually using some of the key principles we outline below 

You have to realize that happiness is not something you find at the end of the road. You have to understand that it is here, in the now.

Being Happy Key # 1

Gratidue

gratitude posterGratitude weighs in at the top of the list because it’s a major part of happiness.

By learning how to be grateful for what you have and for what is in your life, you naturally become happier.

Why?

Well, it goes beyond your thankfulness – it’s shifting your focus entirely away from what could and has gone wrong and putting life in a new perspective.  

 

When we live in the spirit of gratitude, there will be much happiness in our life. The one who is grateful is the one who has much happiness while the one who is ungrateful will not be able to have happiness.

It doesn’t need to be a complicated process, you can take a minute out of your day to feel grateful, or you can sit down and keep a journal. This means you can look back on it when you’re having a particularly difficult time.

The biggest thing is to write down what you are grateful for. You don’t even have to keep the paper. But writing it down makes it more real.

Being Happy Key # 2

Acceptance

 It’s natural to feel anxiety and worry about it, but that isn’t going to change anything that’s happening,? Therefore, the next time something is bothering you and it’s something you cannot change – simply accept it.

If you want to be happy, you have to let go of the part of you that wants to create melodrama. This is the part that thinks there’s a reason not to be happy. You have to transcend the personal, and as you do, you will naturally awaken to the higher aspects of your being.”

Think and Write About This

If being happy greatly transformed you, could you let go of the past and adopt new ways of thinking?

graphic for action stepStep one: Don’t resist the things in life that you cannot change. Note them and say to yourself. “I let that go and focus only and what I can change.”

Step Two, Refocus. Ask for a better thought than your current one. 

Step 3 Bring yourself back into the present time by focusing on things that surround you. 

 

Being Happy Key # 3

Purpose and Passion

Not everyone can chase their passion and make it their career, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still chase your dreams and make them a big part of your life.

When you’re passionate about something, you should aim to make it as much a part of your life as you possibly can – that’s going to lead you being happy.

“Passion is a feeling that tells you: this is the right thing to do. Nothing can stand in my way. It doesn’t matter what anyone else says. This feeling is so good that it cannot be ignored. I’m going to follow my bliss and act upon this glorious sensation of joy.”

Think and Write About This

How can being happy enhance your purpose and your passion? What becomes clear to you when you ask this question?

Mull on the question. Walk with the question and keep adding to the list. 

Use these prompts:

Once you feel you have everything down on a list pick one or two of the items you feel most passionate about.

Follow up with ideas on how you can engage those things more fully. 

Being Happy Key # 4

MEDITATION

Nevertheless, regular meditation practice helps with that sense of being happy.

It’s all about maintaining your awareness and being present in your life.

You should be a guard over your actions, feelings, and thoughts.

The paramount reason for making meditation a part of our daily life is to join forces with our sacred energy and regain the power of our source(God) . Through meditation, we can tap into an abundance of creative energy that resides within us, and a more meaningful experience of life, which enhances us permanently.

Being Happy Key # 5

love

 

Neon Love SignYou don’t need romantic love for it to fuel your happiness, although that’s nice.

Fine love in friendships, strangers, and in yourself and you can show it and take it everywhere you go.

Start by showing your appreciation for the people in your life.

You think over 30,000 thoughts every day and many of them are messy and just one negative thought is enough to change your mood and throw your entire day out of whack.

The first element of true love is loving kindness. The essence of loving kindness is being able to offer happiness. You can be the sunshine for another person. You can’t offer happiness until you have it for yourself. So build a home inside by accepting yourself and learning to love and heal yourself. Learn how to practice mindfulness in such a way that you can create moments of happiness and joy for your own nourishment. Then you have something to offer the other person.”

What assumptions can you drop about love and being happy? Does you current beliefs hindering your happiness?

Being Happy Key # 6

Purpose

Therefore, a bit like chasing your passion you need to aim your lens at the things that you want to do more of, enjoy more of, and brings you happiness. It’s a distinct choice between pleasure and pain, which one will you choose?

 

Everything in the universe has a purpose. Indeed, the invisible intelligence that flows through everything in a purposeful fashion is also flowing through you.

In what new direction can being happy lead you?

Here are five question to use to explore your purpose. 

  1 If Money Were No Object, What Would You Do?
  2 If You Could Do anything for A Whole Day, How Would You Spend it?
  3 What’s Your Passion?
  4 What Do You Really Love Doing?
  5 What Was Your Childhood Passion?

Next Steps for Being Happy

Without action and practice nothing ever gets done and nothing ever changes.

That’s the cold hard truth.

Reading inspiring quotes and thoughts about being happy can’t bring it about.

As I said in the beginning happiness is an inside job. It has to grow from with in you.

Finding happiness in a new car, house, partner, or vacation are only temporary fixes. And like any addict you find yourself chasing after the next new must-have toy.

By working though our six principles you put yourself on a path of self discovery that will bring happiness welling up from inside.
